GET A FILTER! If not this one, a cheap one. They typically clean easier than the camera's lens and are much cheaper to replace if they get scratched or even cracked. I actually noticed a small crap/chip in the corner of my filter I suspect happened while I was exploring some old building. I probably bumped the lens into something hanging low. It's nowhere that'd show in a photo, but it goes to show how such damages could occur unnoticed.
People complain these filters are difficult to clean. Yes, they are a bit sticky with the coating and all, but if you have a brush or true microfiber cloth, they clean up quite easily.
I also saw the true advantage of having multi coated filters during the lunar eclipse. I tried using one of my other cameras with a cheap UV filter, but it had a horrible glare from the brightness of the moon. I switched to the Nikon which had this filter and there was no glare to be seen.
Description of Sigma DG 52mm Wide Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer Filter
Designed for use with autofocus and multifocus SLR cameras, the Sigma 52mm circular polarizing filter cuts the glare from water and nonmetallic surfaces, letting you enjoy crisper, clearer images. A circular polarizer is intended to improve color saturation and contrast, performing such tasks as darkening the sky in color photography without affecting the color balance. The filter's multilayer coating, meanwhile, optimizes protection for the lens while further reducing reflection. The filter--which is designed to especially benefit wide-angle lenses without vignetting--fits lenses with 58mm filter threads.
